Bicycle Collective

Svartsokka received this announcement today:
A Bicycle Collective is being planned to start this summer. What is a Bicycle Collective? Here is a mission statement from a BC in Canada:
“Bike Pirates in an autonomous organization whose mission is to empower cyclists and make bicycles more accessible. Volunteer-run and volunteer-organized, Bike Pirates provides a Do-It-Yourself workspace to the members of the community and supports the concepts of bicycle re-use, collective decision making, and social justice.” – Piratebikes
People bring bikes that they would otherwise throw away and we use them as parts or help other people fix them up.
Don´t think it´s about us fixing bikes 8 hours a day and give them away. It´s rather to offer people workspace to show up with their bike and fix it with guidance from others. Those same people can then use their new know-how and spread the wealth.
We´ve already gotten access to a workshop close to Hlemmur which solves the biggest problem of starting a project like this one.
The first meeting is planned on Thursday 13th of May 19:00 o´clock at the workshop it self.
Send an email to svartsokka (at) svartsokka.org if you are interested in joining the project and we will get the information along.
